A NEW radio station which broadcasts from the shores of Windermere has been set up to serve the Lake District.
Volunteer-led Lake District Radio, based at YMCA Lakeside near the hamlet of Newby Bridge, is run by a team of people who also worked together on Fylde Coast Radio in Blackpool.
Stephen Guppy, station manager and presenter, stressed the importance of getting people from the Lake District involved.
“There’s no point having a local station that isn’t local,” he said. “That’s why we are recruiting everyone who’s going to be with the station from people who live locally.”

At the moment Lake District Radio mostly broadcasts music, but there are plans to branch out into other areas. You can listen online at www.lakedistrictradio.org, and there is also a smartphone app.
In a message to the public, Mr Guppy added: “We want to hear from you. We want you to be involved and we want you to tell us what you want us to do.”
