DO ANY of your readers know the whereabouts of this cairn, inscribed 1811 and supposedly situated in the Grange-over-Sands area?
It was one of a collection belonging to my wife's parents and the boys, Ted (her father) and John, are recognisable.
Ted was born in 1912, so the photograph would have been taken in the 1920s. They were two boys in a family of six children who lived in Oldham but came to Grange for holidays.
The limestone of which the cairn is built is typical of that in the Grange area.
Given the excellent maps now available, and the wealth of information about Grange, it's highly unlikely that the cairn still exists (unless, of course, it's actually elsewhere), but someone may remember it.
If anyone would like to get in touch they can email me at chas.fran@phonecoop.coop
