MOTHER'S Ruin: A Cabaret About Gin - in equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret. It's a raucous journey through 18th century London, featuring stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood, who teach us about our favourite drop in a mixed-up musical history lesson delivered with dry wit and a vat load of aplomb. CYCLIST, adventurer, broadcaster and world record holder Mark Beaumont rides into The Dukes, Lancaster, on Wednesday (May 22, 7.30pm) to reveal how he cycled around the world in fewer than 80 days. Mark completed his cycling marathon, inspired by Jules Verne's classic adventure novel, in 2017. Over the past decade, Mark's epic documentaries have taken viewers to 100 countries, into the Arctic, the high mountains and around the Commonwealth, also surviving capsize in the mid-Atlantic.

Showing films and photography, they depict the fascinating insight into Mark's career of adventure.

A ROUSING Spring Concert performed by the Ulverston Choral Society takes place tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm) at St Mary's Church (Duke Street), Barrow. Mendelssohn's Elijah will be delivered under the directorship of Jolyon Dodgson. Jonathan Millican performs Elijah along with soprano Tracie Penwarden, mezzo Anne-Marie Kerr, tenor Robert Thompson, the youth Martha Alban and organist Edward Taylor.

CSI - Crime Scene Improvisation; no one knows who the killer is, not even the cast! The play doubles as a hysterical murder mystery as well as a tight, witty improv show. Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, this popular CSI comedy arrives at The Brewery, Kendal on Sunday (May 19, 8pm). The cast create a 100 per cent brand new who dunnit every show to solve an outlandish murder invented by the audience. Someone's kicked the bucket. But who, what and how? The choice is yours, the problem is theirs!

CUMBRIAN Challenge 2019 takes place on Saturday (May 18). This fantastic event involves teams of three or four taking on one of three fun and challenging routes around the Langdale Pikes alongside teams of veterans being supported by the charity – Walking With The Wounded. Each route is a differing level of difficulty and teams have the choice of which one to take on.

The venue is Grasmere Sports Ground (7.30am-5pm). The minimum age is 18 years.
