BIKERS from across South Lakeland gathered for an action-packed cross cycle event event at Ulverston Victoria High School.

It was the first event of its kind for a number of years at the school and organisers have already confirmed they are already planning next year’s event.

There were more than 80 racers present on the day.

Children compete in four different age categories. Years three to six, years seven to eight, years nine to ten and a senior/adult race.

Prizes were awarded for the winning male and female in each age category as well as the best in each year group.

Graham Carrick, secretary for Barrow Central Wheelers, who sponsored the event, said: “The event went really well. It’s the first time we’ve put on an event like this. We were pleased to see a lot of kids get involved.

“Everyone came down and enjoyed racing. We want to do more to get kids out enjoying cycling.”
