BARROW Operatic and Dramatic Society is revving up to spread a little magic with its latest show.

Following on from BODS box office belters Legally Blonde (2016), Priscilla Queen of the Desert (2017) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (2018), the popular society performs Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from next Tuesday until Saturday, May 14-18.

Staged at The Forum, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang centres on inventor, Caractacus Potts, played by Ryan Grainger. He starts to restore an old racing car for his two children Jeremy and Jemima (Imogen Stoker, Isabella Davies, Phoebe Lever, Madeline Lever) and they all soon realise that the car has magical powers.

All is well until the Baron of Vulgaria (Neil Hastings) demands the car for himself and Potts and his children end up joining forces with Truly Scrumptious (Deborah McGuire) and Grandpa Potts (Seamus Doran) to overcome the evil Baron, Baroness (Sarah Carrick) and their accomplice The Child-catcher (Estelle Barton).

Some of the BODS cast features child actors and singers courtesy of Barrow's Deemon Performance Academy.

The show features plenty of talent off stage as well as on with director Steve Carrick, musical director Paul Blake and co-choreographers Deborah Brown and Sally McKimm, working their 'truly scrumptious' magic and promising scores of catchy songs, energetic dances and mesmerising performances.

The stage show is based on the enchanting 1968 film, which starred Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries and James Robertson Justice, and still remains a household favourite.

Director Steve said that nearly every family knew Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and to have the privilege to direct the production was a long held ambition. "To have gained the rights to this iconic show is a rarity in the amateur world and BODS have worked hard to bring this 'fantasmagorical' musical to the Forum.

Choreographer Sally Mckimm explained that the show includes a few stand out dance routines. "The choreographers and the dancers have been working hard to ensure that they are full of energy and vibrancy. We hope audiences enjoy Chitty as much as we like performing in it."

Performances start at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday (May 18).
