ORTON village will be hosting its annual exhibition and Scarecrow Competition at the end of this month.

From Saturday May 25 the village's Church Exhibition will be open to the public.

This year the community has chosen 'Window Shopping on the High Street' as the theme.

The week long event will also host the Village Scarecrow Competition, which will feature local trades, jobs and professions.

“In recent years, the Church Exhibition team has created a Scarecrow Wedding that was a big success and then last year celebrated The Four Seasons,” said Brenda Iveson, one of the organisers.

“I think we surprised people with the variety, detail, creativity and work involved and we had lots of enthusiastic comments. For 2019, we wanted to do something different again and a team of volunteers has been working through the winter months to create “shop windows” that will fill the All Saints Church building with everything from a milliner and an optician to a greengrocer and a cake shop.

"We’re lucky to still have a Village Store as well as the chocolate shop, pub and café in Orton but this will almost be like having our own High Street.”

The event starts from 10am, apart from Sunday May 26 where it will commence at 1pm, and will close at 5pm until June 2.

Cream teas and refreshments will be available in Church throughout.
