A WALKER suffered a suspected stroke during the weekend's Keswick to Barrow walk.

Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue team was on hand to help at the event.

On Saturday four members of the team assisted eight separate casualties during the charity walk, ranging from twisted knees to sprained ankles, cut heads to a suspected stroke.

The team was responsible for the care for anyone on the walk who needed it, particularly towards the end.

They were out from 8.30am until around 8pm and were also well supported by paramedics.

The team was out in force again on Sunday providing medical support to the Fred Whitton Cycle Challenge.

The team was deployed on Kirkstone, Hardknott and Wrynose passes. Around 2,500 riders took part and the first casualty was on Kirkstone Pass where due to a tyre blow out, a rider suffered arm, hand and hip injuries.

A second casualty was in Hardknott suffering a broken collar bone and the final two were on the descent on Wrynose Pass when two cyclists, in separate incidents, suffered serious injuries and after casualty care by team members, were airlifted to separate hospitals.

All are now recovering.
