A COUPLE will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends on Saturday.

James and Patricia Dixon were married at Witherslack Church on May 18 1959. The honeymooned in Jersey and made their home at Hill Top, High Newton.

Mr Dixon was a master joiner, originally working for H.B. Wilson in Cartmel before taking over the business until he retired. His wife worked for a number of businesses in Grange-over-Sands, originally for Spencers Confectioners, then for Boots and lastly at the town's library.

They have both been heavily involved with Cartmel Cricket Club. Mr Dixon umpired for more than 50 years and also organised benefit matches for Lancashire and Worcester county players. He is a life member of the club. Mrs Dixon helped make teas and generally helped out at the club.
