A RETRO-THEMED event has raised over £5000 for charity, taking the total generated since its inception to over £20,000.

Thousands of people flocked to 'Total Retro', held at the Westmorland County Showground near Milnthorpe, to enjoy classic cars and bikes, live music, stunts and more.

£5539.58 was raised for Guide Dogs UK, for whom brothers Dave and Chris Hall, who organise the event, were inspired to raise money after meeting Ella Wadsworth, a student from Kendal who was pronounced severely sight impaired at the age of 16. Her own life was changed for the better when she began using a guide dog - a golden retriever named Katie.

Last month the brothers were also challenged by Miss Wadsworth to drive a 4x4 vehicle blindfolded, so that they could better understand what it was like to live with sight loss.

On the event, which is now in its sixth year, the pair said: "We truly cannot thank our supporters enough. Such a lot of hard work goes into this fundraising event, so to see queues of vehicles streaming into the show as soon as the gates open truly made it all worthwhile."
