A LAKE DISTRICT charity will be the subject of a BBC TV show this weekend.

Brathay Trust, based at Brathay Hall just outside the town of Ambleside, will be covered in this months episode of Lifeline, a programme aired by the BBC to raise awareness of a particular charity.

Brathay supports young people facing significant challenges in their lives, delivering support in both community and residential settings.

Sunday's Lifeline will be presented by Radzi Chinyanganya, known for presenting shows like Blue Peter and Songs of Praise.

He said: "I know from my job working with children and from my own experiences growing up that having great support in formative years is so important. For some it's not always possible."

The show will introduce various people whose lives have been changed for the better by Brathay Trust. An example is 20 year-old Poppy, a mother of two who was homeless and struggling with addiction before joining the charity's 'Families First' programme.

With the help of Brathay key worker Vikki Cockroft, Poppy gained the confidence and motivation necessary to get clean, return to college and put her life back on track.

Radzi added: "Some of us are luckier than others with the start we get in life, and Brathay believes all young people have something to offer but they sometimes need support to become aware of what their options are, make positive choices and move forward."

The programme will air this Sunday at 2.10pm on BBC1, and will be repeated at 8.50am on Wednesday on BBC2.
