RESIDENTS from a sheltered housing scheme in Barrow have raised hundreds of pounds for Furness General Hospital.

An impressive £629 was raised for Bay Hospital Charity by residents of Ramsey Park Independent Living Scheme, which will go towards providing dementia trollies for several of the wards at FGH.

The trollies can be themed and include activities such as books, jigsaws and prompt cards that help patients with dementia to reminisce.

The cash was raised from a tombola, raffle and bric-a-brac sale at a Fun Day on Thursday April 18.

The residents decided to raise funds for dementia because it is very close to their hearts as they have friends and family with dementia – a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning. They also wanted to give something back to the hospital for all the care they have received over the years.
