PUPILS at two schools in Kendal will take part in strikes tomorrow (Friday) to raise awareness of climate change and put pressure on the government to act.

Adults and children across the globe will also be striking, urging world leaders to move to reverse environmental degradation.

Children from The Queen Katherine secondary school and Vicarage Park C of E primary school have already gathered to produce banners and other items for tomorrow's event.

Lauren Wallace, who along with her father Bryan is a member of the Extinction Rebellion protest group, will be attending the strike with her children Leila annd Lucie, both pupils at Vicarage Park.

She said: "With all this information we are now given, I can't sit back and do nothing. It's my daughters' future."

She added: "At the moment it's one day a month my kids are out of school and actually this is so important. I'm giving them my permission.

"We need action now."

Strikers will gather at the Birdcage, Kendal, at 11am.

Earlier in the week it was also reported that student Heather Ball, 18, was organising a strike in Ulverston on the same day.

She said: "I think it's really important to involve children in events like this.

"As well as helping to fight for something which needs to be talked about, it's also getting children and adults politically engaged and getting their voice heard in the community."

The Ulverston protest is taking place tomorrow outside the Coronation Hall from 12pm to 4pm.
