DAVID Morris has backed Jeremy Hunt's bid to succeed Theresa May as Conservative leader and is set to play a key part in Mr Hunt's campaign.

The Morecambe and Lonsdale MP immediately declared his support for the current Foreign Secretary, who announced that he would stand for the Conservative leadership just hours after Mrs May announced that she would step down as Prime Minsiter and Tory leader on June 7.

And he told The Westmorland Gazette he was to be part of Mr Hunt's campaign team and had no doubt he was the best candidate for the post.

"I am backing Jeremy Hunt because I think Britain needs someone who is not only going to lead us out of Europe but also lead the country to a new era of prosperity.

"I have the utmost admiration for Theresa May who had a very difficult task and fought so hard during her time in office.

"I feel now that Jeremy Hunt is the one who has the experience and expertise to succeed her."
