COURT: South Cumbria Magistrates' in Barrow
A MAN who was accused of assaulting security guards while trying to flee from court custody is due to stand trial at a crown court.
Benjamin David Smith, 28, was charged with assaulting two guards, Nigel McCarrick and Danielle Brett, at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on January 21.
He is also accused of attempting to escape from custody on the day.
The defendant, of HMP Haverigg, is due to appear for a trial at Preston Crown Court.
His case was sent for a trial following a hearing at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on June 6.
