A CLIMBER was airlifted to hospital after a rock fell on him while he was making his way up Gimmer Crag.
Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team members assisted with the "long and difficult rescue" on Tuesday.
The team said: "He had been descending with his climbing partner when he was hit by a large falling rock. He sustained serious multiple injuries. His location made it difficult to find, access and treat him."
The man was later airlifted to hospital after the eight-hour rescue.
