A COLOURING book based on Yorkshire landmarks has earned A-level pupils from Giggleswick School a regional award and a place in a prestigious national final.

The students won the Young Enterprise Yorkshire and the Humber Company of the Year following the regional final at the National Railway Museum in York.

They will now be competing in the national final in London later this month.

The company has sold more than 300 colouring books, priced at five pounds.

Headmaster Mark Turnbull said: "We are all incredibly proud and delighted with the success of the Colour County Young Enterprise group. "Congratulations to those students and our thanks go to their teacher, Kyle Holland, and their mentors from Skipton Building Society."

The Young Enterprise Company Programme provides young people, aged 15-19 years old, with the opportunity to set up and run their own real company while still at school or college.

Kyle Holland, head of business studies at Giggleswick said that it had been an "incredible journey" for the students.

"his award is the result of many months of hard work in creating, marketing and selling their ‘Colour County' colouring books," he said.

"It all stemmed from an idea to create a fun and educational product for children based on Yorkshire landmarks.

"All the outline images in the book were created by artists from Giggleswick School and it has proved a hit with adults as well as children."

As one of 14 teams the Giggleswick students will be competing in the national final in London.

More than 1,300 teams and 16,000 students have participated in the scheme throughout the UK.

Clients are able to buy the book online through the Young Enterprise marketplace.
