I wrote the following to Cumbria Country Council on February 2, 2019: "I am aware this has been brought to your attention before, but no action has been taken. Sometime I wonder how a World Heritage area can be so lax about maintaining aspects that can give an impression of shoddiness
"It is at least a year ago that a young tree was snapped outside Cafe Italia in Windermere. Ugly orange barriers have been there ever since.
"How easy and inexpensive it would be to install a large planter, with an eye catching type of plant in it?’
They subsequently acknowledged my letter.
