NEARLY 600 walkers and runners covered 14km route to raise vital funds for St John's Hospice.

The Moonlight Walk was hailed as another success with hundreds of walkers dressed in their pyjamas.

Setting off at 10pm participants walked, or ran, the route which started from the Hospice to Bolton le Sands, to the coastal road, along Morecambe Promenade and Broadway before heading back to St John’s Hospice.

People went all out with their accessories as they lit up the run with safety armbands, flashing bunny ears, fairy lights, head lamps, glow sticks and a lot of glitter paint.

Moonlight Walk supporters are motivated by different reasons, for many it is because they know someone who has been cared for by the Hospice in-patient ward or at home by the Hospice at Home team.

The Westmorland Gazette:

Sarah Ingram was the first to cross the line to be greeted by nurses Irene and Jules.

She said to them: “I told you I would come back and do this Moonlight Walk for the care you gave my mum; my legs just carried me along this course to you”.

Annie who also took part, for the third time, was doing it to celebrate the lives of her dad’s mum and her aunty who were cared for on the Hospice ward.

Zosia Muhler, Community Fundraiser said: “This was the most incredible and heart-warming evening. To meet so many wonderful people walking with loved ones in mind is inspirational. Some people were nervous at the start but were emotionally carried through by thinking about the person they were running for and for their support of St John’s as a local charity.

The Westmorland Gazette:

“The yellow ribbons, on which people wrote their personal messages and memories will stay on display at the entrance to St John’s for the next two weeks - please do come along and read them”

“It was also a genuine family event with families of three generations all coming together for the night.”

The next big fundraising event for St John’s is the Bubble rush, which takes place on 14 July in Ryelands Park For more details visit: www.sjhospice.org.uk/event/bubble-rush-2/ or call 01524 382538.
