STRIKING students once again gathered in Kendal to raise awareness of climate change and put pressure on the Government to act.

They were joined in their protests by children around the world, who were calling for action from world leaders to reverse breakdown of the environment.

Martha Morgan-Travis, a year 4 pupil at Ghyllside Primary School, Kendal, said: "The sea level is rising, the ice is melting, lots of animals are going extinct."

She added: "When I'm older I want to still be alive. I want there to be animals and I want it to be nice - not always hot and hardly any water to spare."

Ro Thomas, one of a number of adults who also attended the strike, said: "Because it's connected with climate strikes around the world, they find it very empowering - that they're part of a bigger movement."

Rachel Forrest, who attended the strike with her daughter Alba, said: "It's their future and they have the right to demand change," adding: "What's education on a dead planet?"
