"SELF-confessed cat lover" Cllr Doug Rathbone, Kendal's new deputy mayor, was guest of honour at the Lakeland and District Cat Show at Kendal Leisure Centre.
The 16th annual show attracted its highest door entry ever, and Mr Rathbone awarded a special rosette to his feline of choice, a Maine Coon named Ugolinaron Sky Beyrouth, owned by Helen Dunn and Mrs B Evans, of Barnsley.
Five-year-old Brooke Atkinson, of Kendal, won the children's art competition.
The show was managed by Mike Kavanagh and Edward Irvin, chairman and vice-chairman of the Lakeland and District Cat Club.
Honorary club secretary Angela Orvis said the event attracted "a stream of visitors all afternoon" and the show was "buzzing with enthusiastic visitors, their families and friends".
Crowds enjoyed an exhibition of feline breeds from around the world, with sections for household pets and pedigree cats.
The cat show takes place on the third Saturday of June each year.
