A campaign to reduce the speed limit on the A684 Singleton Park Road, Kendal, has received the backing of MP Tim Farron and Liberal Democrat councillors.

Residents want the 40mph speed limit to be extended beyond the railway bridge, as well as repairs to the old footpath.

A petition signed by local residents will be presented to Cumbria County Council's local committee by  district councillor Eamonn Hennessy.

He said: "There are dozens of residents living on this stretch of road, but with increasing traffic, blind bends and concealed entrances they take their lives in their hands every day.

“This road needs to be 40mph not 60mph."

Local resident Lydia Wiggins said: “I've had more than one near miss on the road. But it's not me I'm worried about. I am terrified for my baby daughter.

“It’s very, very hard to push her pram up the verge as it is but crossing the road is so very dangerous when people are going at 60mph.”
