I enjoyed the Unity Festival at Kendal on Saturday last week and offer my thanks to those who organised and took part in it.
It was good to see the participation of so many young people.
I found it particularly saddening and disappointing, therefore, on Sunday, to see our blue light services associated with the armed forces. Whilst the emergency services are dedicated to saving lives and helping those in distress, the armed forces teach our young men and women to kill.
Perhaps in future it would be more appropriate for our emergency services to join the Unity Festival, which is educational as well as a celebration.
