I share the feeling of your correspondent Raymond Hall (Lettres, June 13, 'Mr Trump is welcome here') that we owe a huge debt to US servicemen for their sacrifice in 1944, but that does not mean we should pay respect to Donald Trump.

In view of his America First policies and open antagonism to NATO we are fortunate that he was not holding the office of President in 1944, as it is unlikely the US would have made such a huge commitment of men and money needed to throw off the yoke of Nazism in Europe.
