I WAS intrigued by the Faith Viewpoint written by Colin Greaves (Gazette, June 27), who seems to be stating – as far as I can tell – that everything that ever happened here on Earth was pre-ordained by God.

So, God pre-ordained the Roman games, God pre-ordained the Crusades, God pre-ordained the religious wars of the late medieval period, God pre-ordained the First World War, God pre-ordained the Second World War, God pre-ordained that tigers should be hunted to near extinction because of the half-baked beliefs of some people that ingesting ground-up tiger bones will give you the strength of a tiger . . . the list is virtually endless.

If God pre-ordained so much suffering, then he/she must be a pretty grim sort of being – not one deserving of our acclamation or worship.
