A PARISH hall was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours as flowers and the fragrance of roses filled the room in time for the Annual Summer Flower Show.

The Westmorland Horticultural Society hosted its 27th summer flower show at Kendal Parish Hall.

Praised for it’s success the room was bursting with colour and sweet smells.

As well as cut flowers there where pot plants and hanging baskets of every type and floral art exhibits.

On Sunday south lakes school children also showed off their skills and imagination by producing many outstanding pieces of art, including miniature gardens and animals made from fruit and vegetables.

The judges in all classes commented on the excellent quality of the exhibits on show.

Rita Hogarth, the societies president, presented the trophies and awards at the end of the event to the following.

lFred Barnes, of Ulverston, won a cup and blue ribbon for the best exhibit in the show a beautiful bowl of roses. He also received a trophy and medal for his roses and a cup for the best exhibit in the miscellaneous section.

lAlan Richie, from Penrith, won the trophy and medal for the best exhibit of sweet peas.

lRod Holmes, of Kendal, won the cup and medal for the best exhibit in the fuchsia section. He also received a cup and crested spoon for the best exhibit in the Pelargonium section.

lMargaret Milburn, of Sedbergh, won the trophy for the best exhibit in Floral Art.

lVicarage Park School, from Kendal, gained the school shield for the most points in the children's classes.

Individual children’s trophies were won by Daisy Rhodes, from Vicarage Park, for the best children’s exhibit in the show, and Ewan Roger for the best miniature garden in the show. Emma Pollard, also from Vicarage Park, won for the best handwriting exhibit on show. Two trophies where also won by Harry Wellock from Dean Gibson School for the best veg/fruit animal and another for the best exhibit in classes up to and including school year 4.
