THIS year's charity dragon boat regatta event on Windermere proved as spectacular and successful as ever when it too k place in bright sunshine last week.

A record number of team entries took part in the event, which was launched by Paddlers for Life Windermere.

In almost perfect conditions at the Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa, an action packed day saw 15 teams compete head to head in a series of heats followed by the fiercely fought final race.

Other activities included a team Hakka performed in front of a crowd of more than 350 and tug of war and fancy dress competitions.

And with all expenses covered by organisers CBA Events, every penny raised on the day went to each team’s charity of choice with a contribution going to Paddlers for Life Windermere.

"We’re delighted with the response this year and the support, effort and commitment that teams have shown," said event director Tim Green.

Although the final figure is yet to be confirmed, more than £14,000 has been raised for various local and national charities or good causes.

And CBA Events presented Paddlers for Life Windermere with a cheque for £1,200 in the prize giving finale at the end of the event.
