BUILT environment consultancy Curtins has moved to new offices in Kendal’s K Village as it approaches its 45-year anniversary in the town.

The firm – best known for its civil and structural engineering services – has taken two units at the former shopping centre, which is currently being transformed with the development of a 69-bed Travelodge hotel.

The new contemporary offices boast riverside views, accessible facilities and parking in what Curtins described as “fit-for-purpose” premises, having moved from a four-story premises in Lowther Street.

Curtins – which also offers transport planning, environmental, infrastructure, geotechnical, conservation and heritage and principal designer serves – first moved to Kendal in 1977.

During that time, it has worked on several high-profile projects, including the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, the new £30m Campus Whitehaven, Cumbria County Council’s new headquarters in Botchergate, Carlisle along with schemes for at GSK in Ulverston and BAE Systems in Barrow.

The new office – one of 14 in the Curtins UK network – was established to capitalise on opportunities in Cumbria and Lancashire, with chief executive Rob Melling saying it was one of the firm’s most desirable places to work.

“The office in Kendal has been long established in Cumbria, allowing us to serve clients across the North West and provide employment opportunities for people wishing to work in the beautiful Lake District location,” he said.

“Our office expansion is an excellent development for all of us here at Curtins, which will facilitate the continued growth of our business in Cumbria and Lancashire.”

Curtin’s director Andy Roberts has led the Kendal office since 2013, during which time the team has grown from five to 13.

He said: “Since we opened in Kendal in 1977, we have contributed to some memorable projects across Cumbria. On all projects, we always use our local knowledge and technical expertise to engineer the best solution available. I’m looking forward to continuing to build close relationships with our clients.”
