STAVELEY’S Rob Jebb won the gruelling Wasdale Fell Race and his partner, Helm Hill runner Sharon Taylor, was the first woman to cross the line.

The race covers 21 miles with at least 9,000ft of climbing and takes the runners over Seatallen, Pillar, Great Gable, Esk Hause, Scafell Pike and Lingmell.

Jebb was 15 minutes clear, finishing in three hours, 56 minutes and 10 seconds.

Ambleside’s Tom Simpson (04-11-42) came in second followed by Keswick’s Calum Tinnion (04-14-57) in third and Ambleside’s Matt Elkington (04-15-50) and Ben Abdelnoor (04-17-55) in fourth and fifth positions.

Sharon had another impressive run this season as she stormed into 15th place and was first woman back in four hours, 42 minutes and 26 seconds.

She was followed by Bryony Halcrow, of Harrogate Harriers, who was second woman and 43rd overall in five hours 20 minutes and 32 seconds.

Annie Roberts of Todmorden Harriers (05-28-29) came in third and 47th overall.

There were 141 starters and 24 retirements from the race.

Meanwhile, the Ambleside AC juniors have shown true team spirit and determination since the Junior Club Championships started in March on the gnarly slopes of Clough Head.

It was the last race in the series and the Ambleside team had only a four point lead which would hopefully see them through to victory.

The race was held in Glossop in the Peak District and runners faced a gruelling uphill route.

With everything to play for, the runners set off to the slopes of the Nab for the final English Championship race.

A phenomenal result was achieved as not only did the Ambleside juniors emerge as team champions but outstanding individual performances were also had.

Charlie Allmond was crowned the U15 boys English Champion and he was followed by James Bowen, who received the silver medal, and Thomas Brailsford, who was awarded the bronze medal in the U15 boys category.

Ambleside’s Rowan Ashworth was the U13B silver medallist.

Finally, following Chloe Rylance’s impressive runs, she received the bronze medal in the U17 Girls category.
