A FOOD festival was hailed as a great success as nearly 1,000 guests flocked to the popular event.

The Arnside and Silverdale Food Festival, held on Saturday in the Gaskell Hall in Silverdale, played host to a wide variety of local food producers.

From fruit and veg stalls, to plants, coffee, tasty cakes, jams, pies, ice cream and cheeses it was the perfect event for food lovers and local businesses.

One of the organisers Martin Humphrey said: “It is such a friendly and joyful occasion and the stallholders work so hard to present and display great food in lovely surroundings.

“We are immensely grateful to them and to our very generous sponsors.” We would also like to extend a special thank you to all the helpers and the 900 visitors who came along to support the event.”The latest addition to the festival was an afternoon of music and pizza at Wolf House and participants included the Silverdale Strummers, and an uplifting and heart-warming performance debut for the Silverdale Songsters community group, who include several dementia sufferers among their number.

Donations to Morecambe Food Bank amounted to £300.
