A £1 million refurbishment of a Cumbria hospital has been completed.

The revamp at Furness General Hospital (FGH), Barrow, has included the creation of a state-of-the-art digital radiography suite for X-rays. The room will be used primarily for outpatients and GP patients.

A SPECT-CT suite (to perform scans of the body) has also been installed with a 'virtual ceiling' to improve patient experience.

New flooring, ceilings, lighting and changing cubicles for patients are among the other arrivals.

Joanne Park, deputy head of department at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The X-ray department at FGH has undergone a radical transformation over the last 12 months. We are delighted with the installation of the new equipment and their capabilities will ensure the patients of Morecambe Bay can access the latest in diagnostic imaging. The new waiting room will definitely improve patient experience and has been refurbished with a new play area, virtual ceiling and comfortable seating.”
