A SOUTH LAKES author is launching his new book today.

Graham Whalan, who was born and brought up in Ulverston, has written a number of novels which focus heavily on the historical features of the town.

His new book, ‘Ulverston: Festivals Town’ dives into the history and the development of the many celebrations held in the town every year, including the evolution of the modern Carnival Parade.

The Foreword is provided by John Fox MBE, of the former Welfare State International group, who describes the book as a ‘detailed and generous read, recommended to every town planner as an inspiration.’

Mr Whalan, who has used memories from his childhood as inspiration to his writings said: “This new book is really a celebration of the town of Ulverston and its people, as well as its history and values as a community.”

The book will be officially released at Ulverston Library, on King Street, today at 7pm. Tickets can be obtained for the event through the library.
