A car rental business has opened a new branch in a Cumbrian town due to increased demand.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car says the need for its new location on Mintsfeet Road, in Kendal, has been driven by demand by local people and tourists choosing to holiday in the UK.

Local stonemason Chris Ellis, of Chris Ellis Stonework, used stone from the Penrith Quarry to create the new branch.

Enterprise has worked with a number of other local suppliers throughout the project, including Westmorland Fire and Security, L and W Wilson, Highfield Guest House and Penrith Quarry.

The new branch will be hiring interns over the summer to manage demand from tourists.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron visited the branch and met with Enterprise employees to learn more about the business.

The branch will offer people the Enterprise Car Club service, which allows them to pay a regular fee so they can pick up and use cars from convenient locations by the hour.

It will also have electric car charging facilities.

Tim said: “The company provides a great service for visitors and locals alike and it’s brilliant to see them planning ahead for the future by gearing up for the introduction of electric vehicles.”

Sak Gill, general manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the North of England, said: “Our new, bigger and better branch means we can offer people living, working and visiting Kendal an even better choice of mobility options and a better experience with Enterprise.

"Over the past 15 years we’ve become part of the community in Kendal. It was important to us to work with local suppliers throughout the project, and to design a building that fits in beautifully with the surrounding area.”
