SINCE it appears we are to leave the European Union after more than three years of expensive and fruitless negotiations, couldn't our Prime Minister just ask his friend Donald Trump to make us the 54th State of the USA?
It would avoid three more years of argument with the EU, give us privileged access to the US market, the benefit of their health services, their chlorinated chicken, hormone-fed beef and, of course, the excitement of participating in further military operations like Iraq and Afghanistan.
And we’d be ‘taking back control’ – with the status of Puerto Rico.
So why not? It’s going to happen anyway after October 31.
