WHY is there such a demand for new houses?

In my youth you did not expect to own a house when you married. You usually stayed with family until you could find a property you could afford to rent, and you moved house only when required.

We are now a 'must have now' society, expecting always to be assisted by the state.

Fragmentation of families causes more single mothers, so extra houses are wanted.

Fathers should shoulder their responsibilities and provide for their offspring.

With less mortgaging there would be fewer demands for large pay rises and generally a much more stable economy.
