YOU may be interested to compare the photograph of the Bowder Stone and its new access ladder (Gazette, July 4, 'New lease of life for Lakes boulder') with photos of earlier versions.
The black-and-white photograph was taken by my grandfather Walter Dymond in 1888 and it is notable for its lack of trees.
The colour photo was taken by me at Easter 1971, by which time the vegetation on the rock itself seems to have been stripped off.
