WORLD class tributes to the world's greatest artists and bands are set to take the Wannasee Music Festival by storm this year at Hutton-in-the-Forest, near Penrith. Taking place over the bank holiday weekend - from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday (August 23-25), a fab fest of eclectic music by tribute bands such as Girl Power (Spice Girls); Waterloo (Abba); Celebrate (Kool & The Gang); Bootleg Beatles (The Beatles) and Roxy Magic (Roxy Music) to name but a few. This family-friendly music fest features a Family Zone area comprising a number of free kids' attractions, rides and face-painting. It's definitely something you'll wanna-see!

PATTERDALE Dog Day is a small, tradition and popular show held on August bank holiday Saturday (August 24, 8.30am) and is centred around an open sheep dog trail competition. As well as the dog trail there are many other events and shows to keep you entertained throughout the day. Among the attractions are open gundog show; children's pet class, traditional sticks and crooks, Ullswater Foxhound show, fell race, craft tent and trade stands, plus catering tent. The show's venue is King George V playing field, Patterdale.

MEET Tommy Atkins is a brand-new play written and presented by Peter Gill and details, through the eyes of a simple Tommy the reality of war for those who fought it. We learn of his experiences in the trenches, fighting on the Somme, at Passchendaele and, also of the boredom, the loss and the comradeship. Returning to Britain, Tommy shows how a generation of returning men were maltreated and how, ultimately, it was his generation that forced through the foundations of the Welfare State. 

Playing at Staveley Roundhouse on Saturday (August 24, 7.30pm). From the beginning of the war to the end, Private Tommy Atkins was there. This is his story.

BIG Sports Weekend at various venues in Kirkby Lonsdale. The event takes place on Saturday (August 24) and includes sports such as netball, badminton, hockey, golf, foot golf, lawn bowls, cricket and touch rugby - for mixed teams of 10, with a minimum of 70/30 split between genders.  

On Sunday afternoon (August 25) all teams can also enter ‘It’s a Knockout’ at the rugby club and finish the weekend off with an evening of awards and celebrations.

CARTMEL Cup Day is the opening day of the August meeting at Cartmel Racecourse and one of the most popular days in the season due to the running of the valuable and highly competitive Cartmel Cup race on Saturday (August 24). As always, the huge funfair will be in the course enclosure. The first race starts at 2.10pm and the last race is at 5.35pm. The entertainment starts at 10am. 

On Bank Holiday Monday, which is the final day of the season and promises some brilliant racing action, But equally brilliant is this traditional holiday is all about the picnic, the fairground and the exciting family fun. In other words, it’s a brilliant, grand finale end of season!

SOLFEST is celebrating its 15th year from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday (August 23-25) at North Lakes Country Park, Tarnside, Silloth. This eclectic music festival spans genres and eras of music featuring a broad group of talented singers, musicians and bands, that come together each year at Solfest, to create an immersive environment with everything from a creative kid’s area to an array of interactive site art and even a healing garden where you can meditate, do some yoga or participate in a Shamanic ritual. Bands include From The Jam, The Coral, The Undercover Hippy, Dansi, Cockney Rejects and many, many more.
