MEMBERS of the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) said they were "delighted" to meet a Buddhist monk and former firefighter from Tasmania.
Venerable Shih Jingang is the founder of the Buddha-Heart Fellowship and was a retained volunteer fireman on the island for 15 years.
As a chaplain, he cares for the spiritual needs of the dying, performs rituals for the dead, and officiates at Buddhist funerals.
He completed a three-year solitary retreat from August 1985 to November 1988.
