September 6-8 sees the 6th edition of the popular women’s cycling event, Ladies of the Lake return to Ulverston and the byways of the South Lakes.

For 2019, the event has grown into a full-weekend ‘mini-festival’ with events and activities for all the family throughout the weekend, with the cake-fuelled bike rides on the Sunday.

Starting at the Laurel and Hardy Museum on Friday 6th, renowned sports journalist and author William Fotheringham, launches his new book on legendary cyclist, Beryl Burton, who was recently the subject of a successful play by Maxine Peake. Rare film footage, question and answer session and book signing.

Saturday 7th offers a full day of activity for everyone:

BMX / Mountain bike track in New Market Street, funded by Ulverston BID – free

With a full day of basic skills workshops at the Ride Bikes shop and skills sessions with Liz Peacock in Ford Park for kids, women and everyone!

In the evening there’s a special event at the Laurel and hardy Museum where the fastest woman to cycle around the world, Jenny Graham will be telling her story.

Sunday 8th is the big day!

The Ladies of the Lake bike rides, the most friendly, supportive and cake-fuelled in the North enjoy their 6th airing. Starting from Ford Park, the routes make clockwise circuits to the north ranging from 28 to 55 miles.

Family Fun! For those left behind, there’s a family fun day at the Tennis Centre.

Organisers Ali and Alan Brenton said; ‘we’re trying to keep the event fresh and new, offering something for the whole family, whether they’re riding of not. Ulverston is a great place to ride a bike or just spend a weekend, our aim is not just to run a great event, but to help extend the tourist season into September for local businesses.’
