RECENT downpours and a poor weather forecast have forced organisers to cancel Hawkshead Show.

The major agricultural event was due to take place on Tuesday but bosses have announced they have had to make the 'difficult decision' to call it off.

Heavy rain in the last couple of weeks has made the ground conditions extremely wet and with more rain forecast for the weekend our priority has to be the safety of getting exhibitors and the public on and off the field," said a spokesman.

"However the horticultural and home-craft classes will continue as planned, in Hawkshead Parish Church. All entries should be taken to the church before 10am. And the exhibits will be open for public viewing once judging has finished from noon. Please come along and support the hard work of our exhibitors.

"We thank everyone for their continued support of our show."
