THE former Provincial insurance hall in Kendal is now available for sale to developers.

It is attached to Sand Aire House - a mixed use development of apartments, retail and offices - and the selling agents believe its sale offers an opportunity "to breathe life back into this part of the building."

Simon Adams, of Peill & Co in Kendal, said: "We are pleased to be able to offer for sale the former insurance hall at Sand Aire House, and hope that it will be of interest to a range of potential occupiers, or developers in order to breathe life back into this part of the building, which has remained vacant for a while after earlier proposals for the site did not proceed.

"Historically, there were plans for a bowling alley and leisure scheme (planning permission was granted by South Lakeland District Council but never implemented) and the building is suitable for a range of uses including offices, showroom and leisure.

"Our clients are seeking a sympathetic developer to purchase the property on a 999-year lease and we are currently conducting viewings of the space."

The property, which extends to just under 6,000 sq ft, already has planning permission for use as bar/restaurant or office/commercial space and previously had consent for a bowling alley and family entertainment area. It also has D2 planning permission which would offer a range of uses including gym, cinema, music venue or sporting use.

The insurance hall, which was sold as part of the original redevelopment, is a Grade II listed building and has access from New Road/Stramongate.
