A CARNIVAL which aims to promote “the best of Kendal to the rest of the world” is returning next month.

This year’s Kendal Torchlight Carnival promises to be one of the best ever as organisers gear up for the a weekend of celebrations.

Founded in 1970, the event has become firmly rooted in the town’s heritage and attracts thousands of visitors to the town each year.

The carnival will take place on Friday, September 27 with the Kendal Street Party on Saturday, September 28.

This year’s theme of the torchlight carnival is ‘Made in the Lakes’ so spectators can let their imaginations run wild.

The theme has been set to inspire and share what people value about the cultural heritage of the South Lakes.

From decorated floats and all manner of vehicles, to dancing troupes and marching musicians, the popular event will start at 7.30pm from Kirkbie Kendal School and then follow a set route around the town centre.

The procession will then finish back at Kendal Leisure Centre at around 10pm. You can now enter online.
