HANG up the apron, put away the oven gloves, and turn your back on the kitchen sink. With so many great places to eat in Kendal, it’s time to leave the kitchen and treat yourself. Whether it’s a fresh pot of tea with an indulgent pastry, or something a bit more exotic, take time to enjoy the delicious fare on offer at the local eateries.

Yard 46

The Westmorland Gazette:

Born from years of dreams at the family kitchen table, inspired by chefs and artisans that have created simple dishes from exceptional produce, Yard 46 opened its doors on October 10, 2017.  Our vision of ‘creating memorable experiences’ has been at the forefront, ensuring that every single customer leaves with a memorable delight, whether that’s the food we serve, the coffee we serve, the friendly service, or the inspirational décor we have carefully created. We have selected our suppliers to ensure that our product is unique, and created with the same passion we instill ourselves.  We use suppliers that we can get to know, so that we can give a background on the food we serve.  We generally serve a brunch-style menu, offering a twist on modern dishes; for instance, our poached eggs are served with wilted spinach on our own freshly baked sourdough toast, finished with a gruyere cheese truffle sauce and Spanish chorizo. We bake all our own bread on-site every morning, our super-grain sourdough is the staple bread alongside our ciabattas, and we also bake a chocolate sourdough which we serve with cherry jam.

The 2 Sisters Cafe

The Westmorland Gazette:

The first 2 Sisters cafe was opened seven years ago at Plumgarth. Monika and Magda (yes, the real two sisters) have gained an enviable reputation for serving quality, home-made, locally-produced food.

Their customers just keep coming back time and time again. In 2016, The 2 Sisters owners, Monika and her husband Wojciech Loranc, decided to open another 2 Sisters coffee shop in Kendal town - and that was a very successful step! They have a wonderful team who work very hard ensuring the food is constantly the best, and the customers receive superb service.

We’re always on the very top in any coffee shops ranking and we’re very proud of it!

Of course, we couldn’t do it without our lovely regulars and the best 2 Sisters team ever!

Farrers Tea & Coffee House

The Westmorland Gazette:

A stunning, Grade II listed, 17th-century building in the heart of Kendal, Farrers is an independent family-run tea and coffee house, now celebrating its 200th anniversary.

Enjoy stepping back in time in the cosy three-story café, where everything is freshly made and locally sourced.

Served in the café are traditional breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea, and a delicious range of cakes, scones and tarts.

In the shop, you will find an extensive range of loose-leaf teas and freshly roasted coffees, as well as teapots, cafetières, gifts, sweet treats, local products, and much more.

Farrers is steeped in history, and the building offers a unique experience as the original shop and many features remain unchanged.

Ye Olde Fleece Inn Kendal

The Westmorland Gazette:

It's hard to believe that we have been open six months already. Time flies when you are busy! We have built a solid, talented, young kitchen team, who have all either graduated from Kendal college in the last three months, or are in the process of completing their qualifications. Food-wise, we will continue to evolve and improve, but stick to the ethos of using hyper-fresh, very seasonal produce. I’m looking forward to launching the next menu “soon”™. Please follow our social media for some sneak peeks.
