A GROUNDBREAKING dance piece called 'Cheer' will be a highlight of a Kirkby Stephen festival which is being staged to mark the fact the Tour of Britain is passing through the town this week.

Organised by Kirkby Stephen Community Arts, 'Spoke - a Celebration of Cycling' starts this Saturday, September 7 and runs through to next Tuesday when the race passes through the town.

And 'Cheer!,' a short dance piece specially commissioned for the event and created by Sian Williams from The KOSH dance group, will premiere on Tuesday at 1pm in the Market Square.

"We are thrilled that the amazing KOSH are coming to the Eden Valley to make this very special piece and show it to the world for the very first time for residents and visitors to mark the Tour or Britain to the region," said Kate Lynch of KSCA.

Members of the public can get involved by joining a free workshop during the festival's family day on Sunday with dancer James Aiden Kay and director Bobby Brook at Kirkby Stephen Sports & Social Club – 10am-11am & 1pm-2pm & 2 to 3pm.

A host of other free events are taking place as part of the festival.
