KNIT and Nat meets in the reading rooms for all crafters and tea drinkers tomorrow (Friday, 2pm). 

HERITAGE open day at Allan Bank is an annual event offering free entrance. This will be on September 20 (10.30am-5pm). There will be talks on the Keswick School of Industrial Art, and guided walks in the grounds. This National Trust house is open daily and incorporates an art exhibition by Karen Lester as well as Billie Buzzard’s wild garden trail for children. WI MEMBERS enjoyed a day out at Brantwood, Coniston, visiting the house and gardens. The large collection of Ruskin lace items was of interest, as several of our members are skilled in this intricate needlecraft. The next meeting returns to the village hall, where Dr Patricia Howell will talk about Springtime in the Isles of Scilly on October 10 (2pm).

 

Hawkshead...

RAINBOWS, brownies and guide meetings have started at Park House, if you are aged five years or over you can join by visiting girlguiding.org.uk. Guides have had an exciting time at Wellies and Wristbands in Clitheroe where they danced and took part in a wide range of outdoor activities as well as meeting new friends. The 33rd Barrow Brownies have also enjoyed a pack holiday at Park House with an emoji theme.

 

SIX of the leaders from Girlguiding in Hawkshead enjoyed a weekend of training on the new programme and lots of fun at Waddow Hall. Sue Gudgeon, leader of Hawkshead Guides handed on the role of county commissioner. Judith Myers also handed on her role as assistant county commissioner. Beautiful flowers along with generous garden tokens, gifts and flowers were presented as a lasting reminder of all the shared memories that have been made. A short presentation of the adventures from the first event at Conishead Priory in 2014 to adventure days, balls and sleepovers, International events and ending in a game around Edinburgh for the senior section this summer.

 

AFTERNOON teas for the Shoebox Appeal have taken place over the summer and items for this year’s boxes are being collected. Volunteers are needed to help make up the boxes from November 18-20.

A COFFEE morning with cakes and home produce stalls, will be held on September 27 (10.30am-noon) at the Braithwaite Hall, Far Sawrey, in aid of the Macmillan Nurses Cancer support. 

AN ANTIQUES roadshow is being held on September 27 (7.30pm) at Braithwaite Hall hosted by Dr Chris and Mrs Lane. The couple has been dealing with antiques since 1968 and invite you to take along your antiques, valuables or any items you would like advice on. Refreshments will be available and a selection of puddings. Proceeds go to Braithwaite Hall restoration fund.
