A PROJECT to facilitate new housing developments in Westfield has been halted.

Allerdale council was looking into the possibility of applying for a grant from Homes England to carry out work to make land on Westfield Drive more appealing to prospective developers.

This was to encourage building of new homes on the estate.

However the project is now no longer going ahead.

A progress report on the project said there were some issues to resolve before plans could progress.

It added the council was still waiting for Homes England to confirm the offer of funding.

A council spokesman said: “Allerdale Borough Council is always looking for opportunities to seek funding to help facilitate council-owned land which may have a potential for housing development.

“The council has been working with Homes England to look at the Westfield Drive site but is not taking forward any grant funding opportunities at this time.”
