THE Lake District is landing its very own Monopoly game after seeing off very stiff opposition from across the UK including the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Highlands.

Mr. Monopoly will be breaking the news, complete with a gigantic Monopoly set on the shores of Windermere at 11am today.

The new edition will see around 30 Lake District landmarks replace the famous London spaces and streets. From Mayfair and Park Lane to Windermere and Wordsworth's cottage.

“We expect to be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this game together,” says George Shrimpton, who works at Monopoly,

“The public is being invited to vote for their Lakes favourites to feature in the game. Some landmarks look like absolute shoo-ins such as Windermere and everything Wordsworth. We welcome and invite all suggestions.”

Other landmarks that are set to be discussed to be in the running to ‘Pass GO’ have included Beatrix Potter’s House, Brantwood, Muncaster Castle, Wastwater and Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway station.

Mr Shrimpton, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK - who are producing this board under official license from Monopoly owners, Hasbro, said: " The game will feature the great and the good of the lakes.

"We are extremely excited to be producing it. We looked at very many National Parks across the UK and The Lakes was the clear winner. We wanted to select a game that celebrates the very best of Britain. More than twelve million people visit the lakes every year so we expect the game to be a world seller."

For a month only, starting from today, the public is also invited to suggest other landmark names. They can do so by emailing TheLakes@winningmoves.co.uk pr via the official facebook page: The Lakes Monopoly Edition.

The new game will be available from next spring (2020) at all major retailers across the county and beyond as well as very widely online including Amazon.
