CHRISTIANS Together in Levens will hold a Recycling For Good Causes event this Saturday, September 21, (10am-11.30am) at Levens Methodist Chapel. People are asked to bring along old or current British and foreign currency, any postage stamps including first day covers, spectacles and sunglasses, jewellery, watches (broken or in working order), mobile phones (remember to remove sensitive material from the memory) and small electronic items such as sat-navs, iPods, games consoles and accessories, laptops and cameras. Tickets have sold out for the Levens Arts and Film Society evening of classical music performed by the Viva Wind Quintet. Next month’s event will be Bubble Schmeisis at the institute on Sunday, October 20 at 7.30pm. A Yiddish tale with a mixture of story telling and live Klezmer music. THE next meeting of Levens Local History Group will be tonight, (Thursday) at 7.30pm at the institute where Jeremy Roman-Robinson will give a talk on Long houses, bloomeries and the Manor of Witherslack. All welcome.

A COFFEE morning will be held at the institute this Saturday, September 21 at (10am) to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. All welcome.

HARVEST supper will take place at the institute on Monday, September 23 (6.30pm) when a two course supper of shepherds pie and apple pie will be served followed by the auction of harvest gifts in aid of the Bishops Harvest Fund supporting the Pigeon Pea Project in Malawi. Beetham...

BEETHAM WI retained the shield for overall winner in the craft section at the Westmorland County Show. The individual winner, Alison Warwick and the runner-up, Louise Tomlinson are both members of Beetham WI. 

BEETHAM Community Band will be meeting on Saturday, September 21 (10.30am) at St Michael and All Angels Church. Those who have played a musical instrument and would like to take it up again, should go along and join in the fun. It does not matter what standard. 

THERE will be a choral evensong at St Michael and All Angels Church on September 29 (6pm) as part of the Patronal Festival of St Michael.

THE 25th annual meeting of the snooker club was held at The Athenaeum, Leasgill. The chairman’s role would continue to be held by Ian Gunby. The new committee is Doug Barnett, Gordon Coleclough, Neil Dodds, Tom Grindey, Allan Mason, Bernard Pickthall and Peter Tomkins. The club would welcome new members.
