CROOK...

A SUCCESSFUL concert by the Burneside Brass Training Band was held at Crook Church. There was an enthusiastic audience, delicious canapes, drinks and excellent raffle prizes. The profits from the evening will go towards upgrading the heating system in the church.
The following day saw the community bid farewell to the curate, the Rev Gavin Rushton, who is moving to a parish in County Durham. He was thanked for all his commitment and enthusiasm and presented with a crook from Crook.

SEPTEMBER 29 is the fifth Sunday in the month when there is a combined morning service for parishes in the Two Valleys. This will be at Cartmel Fell Church (10.30am). On October 6, there will be a harvest festival at St Catherine’s Church and on October 8 (7pm), a harvest supper at the memorial hall, when it is hoped to welcome as many people as possible. After a hotpot supper there will be a talk given by Steve Cottam on the motorbike trip he made with his wife from Kathmandu in Nepal to Kendal.

It is also hoped that enough can be raised to support a comprehensive two-year training programme for at least one of their families and give them the opportunity to start a small business rearing goats, chickens and pigs. Offers of sponsorship of individual pupils or the whole school are welcome. Telephone Matthew Jessop on 015395 68471 for details.
