OLD HUTTON...

THE primary school children enjoyed a terrific day at the Westmorland County Show. They took home a great deal of amazingly dirty clothing! The children are looking forward to putting the finishing touches to the new pod this term. The additional space will provide a much-needed area in which to work with pupils in small groups. Children at the pre-school and playgroup enjoyed the very wet weather with a puddle-jumping session, followed by a visit from Evolve Yoga, who took them through some lovely poses, breathing, listening and relaxation exercises.

BENDRIGG Trust will hold an inclusive activity festival on September 28 (11am-4pm) at Bendrigg Lodge, with an additional quiet hour (10am) for people with autism or other sensory or social needs. Tickets can be pre-booked online via bendrigg.org.uk/festival. Ticket price includes parking, access to the grounds and a range of exciting activities for all ages and abilities. Activities include zip wire, climbing, caving, tube slide, art activities, and much more. There will a hog roast, barbecue and refreshments available to purchase on the day (cash only). Anyone who is willing to help should telephone Bendrigg on 01539-723766.

THE village’s harvest festival will take place on October 6 (11am). Harvest lunch will follow (noon) at the public hall. All offers of food, raffle prizes or help on the day would be much appreciated.

YOGA classes at the public hall have started on Monday evenings. A mellow class focusing on breathing, supported stretching and gentle flows, with chair-based options available. This is followed by a stronger class, still with emphasis on breathing and long mindful stretches, but with more energetic flows included (7.15pm). Both classes finish with a guided relaxation and are suitable for beginners to those who are more experienced. The first class is free for newcomers.

THE primary school has been accepted by Asda in Kendal for the green token scheme to raise money for their pod. This will run until the end of September. The school is up against two other community projects and will receive a £500 donation if it receives the greatest number of tokens. Anyone who is shopping in Asda should request tokens as they are not automatically handed out.
