SEDBERGH'S celebration of all things sheep takes place this weekend.

Flocks of people are expected to descend on the Dales town for the annual Sheepfest.

Traders, organisations and individuals work together to create their very own life-sized sheep and put them on display in shops and businesses along the Main Street and in other public outdoor areas.

This year’s theme is ‘rubbish sheep’ inspired by the current focus on a more sustainable and eco friendly way of living.

Sheepfest was originally the brainchild of the team at Farfield Mill Arts & Heritage centre. There will be free entry and a shuttle bus service to the mill on both days. It will be hosting sheep related crafts and activities as well as displaying their own set of sheep as part of their Heritage Open Weekend.

Rural Links will also be joining in with its field to fork roadshow. Various breeds of sheep and other animals will be on show for visitors to see and learn about.

Sheepfest is Sedbergh’s celebration of all things sheep. If you’ve never witnessed this baa-rilliant event before, ewe are definitely missing out!

For the main attraction local businesses, organisations and individuals work together to create their very own life size sheep that are displayed in shops and businesses along the Main Street and in other public outdoor areas for the duration of the weekend September 21 to 22. Comic names are positively encouraged! Have a stroll around town to see how many you can spot, and maybe even learn a thing or two with our mini sheep quiz along the way.

This year’s theme is ‘rubbish sheep’ inspired by the current focus for a more sustainable and eco friendly way of living. We are hoping that people will come up with creative ways of recycling items into making their sheep, as well as considering where that will end up after the weekend itself. That means digging out your sheep from previous events is positively encouraged. There will be a prize for the ‘best in show’ so get your thinking caps on! If you haven’t already let us know that you are joining in the fun, please do get in touch so we can add you to our list. There is lots of inspiration from previous events on our website www.sheepfest.co.uk or the Facebook page.

Originally the brain child of the team at Farfield Mill Arts & Heritage centre, there will be free entry and a shuttle bus service to the Mill on both days, where they will be hosting some sheep related crafts and activities as well as displaying their own set of sheep as part of their Heritage Open Weekend. Children can also grab a free goodie bag for taking part, and pose as ‘Shepherd and Sheep’ with our Sheepfest board. There will also be lots of information about the amazing natural and sustainable resource that is wool, with the Mill being an integral part to Sedbergh’s heritage and the wool industry.

For 2019, Rural Links will also be joining us on Main Street with their field to fork roadshow, with various breeds of sheep and other animals for visitors to see and learn about.

To coincide with the event, there will also be Sedbergh’s famous Artisan Market along Main Street with both sheep and non sheep related items available for purchase, as well as the annual pet service at St Andrews Church on Saturday morning.

Ewe would be baa-rmy to miss it!
